The Burnet High School softball team defeated Marble Falls 15-0 April 18 to win the District 24-4A championship outright in a game that ended after four innings.
Next up for Burnet is Gatesville for a bi-district championship with dates, times and site still to be determined. But first the Lady Dawgs will welcome Georgetown East View in a warm-up game at 6 p.m. Monday, April 24, at Bulldog Diamonds.
“Before the season started, they set a goal that they wanted to be the best softball team Burnet has ever seen,” head coach Hailey Wooten said. “Burnet has never played past the area round of the playoffs.”
The Lady Dawgs scored 15 runs off 14 hits led by Maddi Moise’s 4 RBIs. Journey Denton had 3 RBIs and Presely Crawford had 2.
Burnet scored 11 runs in the first inning then added one in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth.
Pitcher Kyleigh Mott was credited with the four-inning win. Wooten praised the pitcher and the defense for the shutout.
“Any ball they put in play, the defense was ready and made the outs,” she said. “She had five strikeouts and gave up no hits.”
Wooten, who is a 2013 Marble Falls High School graduate, said she didn’t connect the dots that her Lady Dawgs beat her alma mater to claim the district crown.
“I’m a Burnet Bulldog,” she said. “And I’m glad to be. This is where I want to be.”
